Candle Tips To maximize your enjoyment and the life of your candle, it is very important to exercise proper care throughout the burning process. We encourage you to remember these helpful hints:
~ Remove all packaging before lighting.
~ Trim wicks to 1/4" before each lighting and be sure to remove any wick trimmings, or matches from candle surface.
~ Avoid burning candles in drafts. If the flame is not still, move candle to another location with less air movement. As the candle burns the wax pool should be equidistant from the rim of the candle or around the wick for multi-wick candles. If the wax pool is off to one side, rotate the candle 180 degrees or extinguish the wick(s), trim, center and re-light. If the pool is still off-center, move candle to a new location.
~ Always place your candles with holders on a heat-resistant surface. Never place candle directly on furniture.
~ Never leave a burning candle unattended and always burn out of reach of children, pets and flammable materials.
~ Consider the overhead clearance of a candle to be sure that the flame and the heat can rise safely.
~ Votive candles are designed to liquefy: always burn in a proper holder.
~ Pour 1-2 tablespoons of water in the bottom of a votive glass before inserting votive. This will extinguish the flame before it reaches the bottom and makes the residue easier to clean.
~ Always remove wick tab from votive glass before inserting new votive.
~ When burning pillars, burn one hour for each inch in diameter. Extinguish candles, let cool and re-light for maximum burn time.
~ Handle candles and candle containers with care, as they will get hot during use.
~ To remove wax residue from a holder: run hot water over it or, place holder in the freezer overnight or use a blow dryer to heat the wax, then quickly wipe with a rag.
~ Store candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight or fluorescent light.
~ To clean candles use mineral oil or baby oil on a clean cloth, and wipe carefully. Rub with a nylon stocking to restore shine.
~ To extinguish candle flames we recommend using a snuffer. If a snuffer is not available, hold one or two fingers in from of the flame and blow. The air will encircle the flame, extinguish it while avoiding spraying wax.
